Role Purpose 
Developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware,software, and communication links. This role is also responsible for telephone, data center, security systems and another electronic infrastructure. He/she is also responsible for ensuring that SANS network is designed, built, monitored and upgraded to meet the requirements of its users at SANS.

Network Communication
• Secure data from internal and external attacks and provide secure access to the network for remote users. Manage crisis situations, which may involve complex technical hardware or software problems. Ensure that software licensing laws are adhered to.

• Develop the network architecture diagram that shows the network addresses of all nodes and networks connected to the Local Area Network (LAN) including the list of authorized usernames. Perform analysis of SANS’ network needs and design a model for SANS’ network and customize it to fit SANS needs.

• Evaluate local area network hardware and software requirements and capabilities and make recommendations. Set up the hardware and software required for a computer network infrastructure. Connect and configure the network components through the most suitable type of connections and configure the network.

• Monitor the performance of the network and conduct network troubleshooting for any problems such as slow performance or crashes which may occur when users cannot access the network or use all of its features properly.

• Provide support to network users and work with individual users who are facing network problems. Provide periodical maintenance for SANS’ telecommunications including the video conferencing system, and ensure that problems that arise are dealt with promptly to maintain high uptime and workability.

• Keep records of all users’ problems and errors as well as the steps taken to solve the problems to use this information to help solve any similar future problems which may arise. Process periodic upgrading of the network and its hardware and software components.

• Sufficient knowledge in IP/MPLS routing & switching concepts. Performs analysis and diagnosis of complex networking problems in area of IP Core and MPLS/VPN networks.

• Manage monitor and troubleshoot Internet Links, IPSEC Site-to-Site, Remote Access VPN connectivity and GRE Tunnel

• Perform Network and Application vulnerability scans, and track proper remediation of findings, in order to determine company exposure and related security risk. Create and maintain up-to-date documentation of network design, logical network data flow diagrams operation and procedure documentation. Maintain the network Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

• Assists in analyzing / fine-tuning of tools designed for monitoring network and system availability and performance (packet loss, bandwidth management, network utilization, traffic flow).

• Should ensure network/ security best practices are followed for the delivery, implementation and maintenance of Network Devices / technologies by employee-partners and contractors. Setup, support and implementation of IP network solutions.

• IP Switching protocols. Network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, routing, switching, load-balancing, monitoring.

Network Infrastructure
• Evaluate user needs and system functionality and ensure that ICT facilities meet these needs, Plan, develop and implement the ICT budget, obtaining competitive prices from suppliers, to ensure cost effectiveness.

• Schedule upgrades and security backups of hardware and software systems.

• Ensure smooth running of all ICT systems, including anti-virus software, print services and email provision.

• Keep abreast of the latest technologies and install new systems. Develop the technical architecture diagram that shows the connection between departments (showing specific bandwidth of connections and type of connection e.g. Leased Line, ADSL, Wireless, or Satellite).

• Experience in configuration and troubleshooting Routing Protocol, Trunking, ISL and 802.1q, VLAN, Ether Channel, STP, Layer 2 Protocols, HSRP. Knowledge of CISCO IOS Security features and basic knowledge of security vulnerabilities threats and attacks

• Monitor Vendors KPIs and ensure delivery as per agreed SLAs

• Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes taking into account leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement

3 to 6 years of experience in Computer Science or related role

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science (CS), IT Networking or equivalent
