Saudi Arabia to Launch Formula E’s Biggest-Ever Season as the GEN4 Era Begins in Jeddah

Saudi Arabia is set to take center stage in global motorsport by hosting the opening rounds of the largest season in ABB FIA Formula E World Championship history, following the unveiling of the 2026-2027 calendar featuring 21 races across 13 cities worldwide.

The new season will begin in the Kingdom with two night races at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit on December 18 and 19, 2026, marking the official start of the GEN4 era and reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s growing status as a leading destination for major international sporting events.

The 2026-2027 calendar is the most extensive since the championship’s inception and includes new venues such as the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, and Circuit Zandvoort in the Netherlands, while the London E-Prix moves to the iconic Brands Hatch circuit in the United Kingdom.

The upcoming season represents a major milestone with the debut of the GEN4 car, the most advanced and sustainable race car ever developed for Formula E. The new car delivers up to 600kW of power—equivalent to more than 815 horsepower—and features active all-wheel drive throughout the race.

GEN4 also introduces several cutting-edge technologies, including active differential systems, dual aerodynamic configurations, and advanced energy regeneration capabilities, providing manufacturers with a platform to develop future electric vehicle technologies while enhancing on-track performance and competition.

Formula E has also reinforced its commitment to sustainability by designing the calendar to minimize international freight movements and reduce carbon emissions. In addition, the GEN4 car has been developed under a circular design philosophy, using materials that are 100 percent recyclable or reusable.

Saudi Arabia’s selection as the season-opening destination highlights the international confidence in the Kingdom’s organizational capabilities, world-class infrastructure, and continued success in hosting premier global sporting events, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to establish the Kingdom as a leading global sports hub.
